What is BSP? (Business Service Provider)
Ongoing success is highly dependent on a company's ability to provide substained performance
Business Service Provider (BSP) is a third party that hosts and manages
applications from a centrally managed facility. Customers generally pay
a flat monthly "Subscription" fee to "rent" access to an application.
Customers access the remotely managed application via the Internet using
a web browser (Internet Explorer or Netscape) anywhere, anytime.
Outsourcing Information Technology needs
Pioneering companies are beginning to outsource vital enterprise-resource-planning (ERP) applications,
including those for financials, order entry, human resources, and shop-floor management.
The responsibility for the deployment, management, and enhancement of
software applications is contracted to an external Business Service Provider
(BSP). By doing so, companies are beginning to see evidence of benefits
of outsourcing.
Such benefits include: reduced capital outlay, greater efficiency and
increased ability to focus on the core business. Business service providers
(BSPs) typically provide services for packaged software applications from
a centrally managed facility.
Clients access the applications remotely, over the Internet or leased
lines. Hence the everyday maintenance chores of the application and its
associated equipment is no longer required from the users but from the
BSP.
The BSP specializes in maintaining the application and does so for all
users. The major advantage of this model is that instead of every user
having to maintain a separate copy of the application and its hardware,
now only the BSP is responsible for this task and all users benefit by
using the application and not having to dedicate time, money and human
resources to its maintenance.
BSPs are responsible for the maintenance, upgrade, security, availability,
backup and general upkeep of the application and database. BSP provides
one point of contact in case of problems and questions. The issue may
be technical, functional or database related. One phone call accommodates
for all customer
